Dominated by Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, and featuring a scenic coastal landscape, Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro and Tanga regions support a range of ecosystems.

However, challenges including traditional ginger farming, extreme poverty and climate change have triggered substantial losses in trees, vegetation and water, which have caused a consequential overexploitation of nearby forests and nature reserves.

This initiative involves planting 4.5 million native and agroforestry trees, aiming to restore the significant loss of trees and biodiversity by providing locals with diverse tree species that generate alternative sources of income, food and forestry materials.
